Rules and prizes
Who Will Be a Billionaire is a free trivia quiz game with a money ladder of 20 rungs. The first question is worth $100 and the last one is worth $1 billion. The questions come from five difficulty levels, four from each: very easy, easy, medium, harder and hard. So the first four questions are warm ups and the last four will test real general knowledge.
You get 45 seconds for every question. The timer bar turns red when only 10 seconds are left. If the time runs out, it counts as a wrong answer.
Safe havens. Questions 5, 10 and 15 are safe havens. Once you answer question 5 correctly, $1,000 is guaranteed. Clear question 10 and you are sure of $32,000. Clear question 15 and you keep at least $1 million.
Wrong answer or timeout. The game ends and you take home the last safe haven you passed. Miss before question 5 and you leave with nothing.
Walk away. Before you answer, you can stop and keep the prize of the last question you answered correctly. Walking away on question 12, for example, pays $64,000 instead of risking a drop to $32,000.

The three lifelines explained
You have three lifelines and each one works once per game. Use them while a question is on screen, before you answer.
50:50
Two wrong answers disappear, so you only have to choose between the right answer and one wrong answer. It is the most reliable lifeline because it never removes the correct answer.
Crowd Vote
A bar chart shows how a crowd of other players voted. On easy questions the crowd is nearly always right. On the hardest questions the crowd is guessing too, and the top bar is only right a little more than half the time. If you used 50:50 first, the crowd only votes on the two answers that are left.
Call a Pal
A pal sends you a short message with the answer they would pick and how sure they feel. Pals are very reliable early on and less reliable on hard questions, so treat a shaky guess as a hint, not a promise.
Tips for climbing higher
Save your lifelines for the second half of the ladder. The first ten questions are meant to be quick wins, and a lifeline spent on question 3 may be sorely missed on question 14.
Think about the safe havens before you guess. A wrong guess on question 6 only costs you a little, because you drop back to $1,000. A wrong guess on question 14 throws away $250,000 that you could walk away with, so be honest about how sure you are.
Combine lifelines on a really tough question. 50:50 followed by Crowd Vote gives a crowd vote between just two answers, which is much easier to read.
Read every answer before you tap. Many wrong answers are close cousins of the right one, like nearby cities or similar sounding words. If two answers look almost the same, the question usually hinges on that small difference.
Why play a general knowledge quiz?
A trivia quiz game is a fun way to learn something new every few seconds. Each of the 300 questions in this quiz comes with a short fun fact, so even a wrong answer teaches you something. The questions cover science, geography, history, nature, language, art, music, sport, food, space and math, and they are family friendly, so kids, parents and grandparents can play together. Recent questions are remembered on your device, so new games bring fresh questions.
Who Will Be a Billionaire FAQ
Is Who Will Be a Billionaire free to play?
Yes. The quiz is completely free, runs in your web browser on phones, tablets and computers, and needs no download, no app and no sign up.
How many questions do I need to answer to win $1 billion?
You need 20 correct answers in a row. Every game picks four questions from each of five difficulty levels, so the quiz starts very easy and ends with hard general knowledge questions.
What are the safe havens?
Questions 5, 10 and 15 are safe havens worth $1,000, $32,000 and $1 million. Once you answer one of them correctly, that amount is guaranteed even if you miss a later question.
What happens if I answer wrong or the time runs out?
The game ends and you win the amount of the last safe haven you passed. If you have not yet cleared question 5, you leave with nothing.
How does walking away work?
While a question is on screen you can walk away and keep the prize of the last question you answered correctly. On question 1 that means $0, so walking away only makes sense later on the ladder.
How many times can I use each lifeline?
Each lifeline, 50:50, Crowd Vote and Call a Pal, can be used once per game. You can use more than one on the same question, for example 50:50 first and then Crowd Vote.
Will I see the same questions every game?
The quiz has 300 questions and remembers the questions you saw recently on your device, so new games bring fresh questions. The answer positions are shuffled every game as well.
Is this game connected to a TV show?
