Rubik's cube notation made simple
Every button uses standard cube notation, the same letters you will find in any solving guide. The button colors match the center color of each face, so you always know which side you are turning, even after you spin the cube around.

Clockwise always means clockwise as if you were looking straight at that face.
How to solve a Rubik's cube for beginners
- White cross. Bring the four white edge pieces up around the white center so their side colors match the centers next to them.
- White corners. Put the four white corners in place to finish the first layer. Hold the corner below its spot and repeat R U R' U' until it drops in correctly.
- Middle layer. Move the four middle edges into place without breaking the white layer, using a short sequence that lifts the slot and sets the edge in.
- Yellow cross. Turn the cube over and make a yellow cross with F R U R' U' F'.
- Last layer. Swap the yellow edges and corners into their spots, then twist the corners until every side is one color.

Practice mode with hints and undo
Practice mode is built for learning. The clock only starts when you make your first move, so you can study the scramble first. If you get lost, the Hint button lights up the next move toward the solved cube, and Undo takes back your last turn. It is a relaxed way to learn the beginner method, check an algorithm, or simply enjoy a classic puzzle on your phone.
Race your friends in real time
Rubik's cube races are where Cube Rush gets exciting. Create a private room, share the code, and up to four players get exactly the same scramble on their own screens. Everyone's clock starts at the same moment and you can watch your friends' cubes twist live next to yours. The first player to solve wins, and the results show every time and move count. Hints are off in races, so it comes down to pure skill.
Play with buttons, swipes or the keyboard
On a phone, swipe across the stickers to turn a layer or tap the big colored buttons. On a computer, press U, D, L, R, F and B to turn faces clockwise and hold Shift to turn them the other way, which makes it easy to practice finger tricks and algorithms. Drag the empty space around the cube to look at it from any angle, and use the reset button to snap back to the front view.

How do I turn the cube?
Tap a face button such as R or U to turn that face clockwise, or the button with an apostrophe, such as R', to turn it the other way. You can also swipe across the cube to turn a layer, or use the keyboard keys U, D, L, R, F and B with Shift for the other direction. Drag the background to look around the cube.
What do U, D, L, R, F and B mean?
They are standard cube notation. U is the top (up) face, D is the bottom (down) face, L is left, R is right, F is front and B is back. A letter on its own means turn that face 90 degrees clockwise as if you were looking straight at it. A letter with an apostrophe, such as U', means turn it counterclockwise.
How do I race my friends?
Choose Race friends, enter your name and create a room. Share the six letter room code or the invite link. When everyone is in, the host presses Start, every player gets exactly the same scramble and all clocks start together. The fastest solve wins.
How do hints work?
In Practice mode the Hint button lights up the next move that leads back to the solved cube. You still make the move yourself. Hints follow whatever you do, so if you make a different move the next hint simply undoes it. Hints are turned off in races to keep them fair.
What is the easiest way to solve a Rubik's cube?
Most people learn the beginner layer by layer method. Make a white cross, finish the white corners, solve the middle layer edges, make a yellow cross, then position and twist the last layer corners. Start on Easy with 8 scramble moves and use hints whenever you get stuck.
How long does it take to solve a Rubik's cube?
A beginner usually needs a few minutes with the layer by layer method. With practice many players get under one minute, and experienced speedcubers using advanced methods solve the cube in under 15 seconds.
