The board holds five 5 letter words. All five belong to one secret theme, such as Bakery or Weather.
Tap a letter
Pick a letter on the keyboard. If it is in the puzzle, every copy of it appears in all five words at once.
Watch your lives
You have five lives. A wrong consonant costs one. A vowel costs one too, even when it is right.
Reveal every word
Fill all 25 tiles before your lives run out. Then the theme is revealed and you can share your result.

Rules and scoring
Fivefold is a themed word guessing game for one player. Each puzzle has five secret words, each exactly five letters long, and all five words come from the same hidden theme. You guess one letter at a time, and every guess works on all five words together.
When you guess a consonant that is in the puzzle, it costs nothing and every copy of that letter is revealed on the board. When you guess a consonant that is not in any word, you lose one life. Vowels work differently. A, E, I, O and U cost one life every time you pick them, whether they are in the words or not.
That rule changes the moment you find the last consonant. As soon as every consonant on the board is showing, a green banner tells you that the vowels are free, and from then on a vowel never costs a life. You win when all 25 letters are revealed and you lose when your fifth life is gone. Either way the hidden theme is shown at the end, and if you run out of lives you see all five answers.

Daily Challenge
The Daily Challenge is one puzzle a day, and it is the same puzzle for every player. A new one starts at midnight UTC, and the home screen counts down to it. Puzzles are numbered from the first of January 2026.
Each solved Daily Challenge grows your streak by one when you also played the day before. Skip a day and your next win starts a fresh streak at one. Run out of lives and the streak goes back to zero. Your current streak, best streak, win rate and games played are shown after every daily puzzle and saved on this device. If you leave or reload in the middle of the daily puzzle, your letters and lives are kept, so you carry on right where you stopped.
Free Play
Free Play deals a random puzzle from a library of 120 themes, from Ocean and Bakery to Dance, Tennis and Animal Sounds. You can play as many as you like. Free Play never repeats the theme you just finished and never gives away today's Daily Challenge, and it does not change your streak or your stats.
It is a great way to practise the vowel rule, and every result can be shared as a short text with your hearts, without spoiling any letters.
Tips and strategies
The heart of Fivefold is simple: consonants are free when they are right, and vowels are never free until the end. So the best opening is almost always a run of common consonants. Letters such as R, S, T, L and N appear in a huge number of English words, and with five words on the board the chance that at least one of them contains each letter is very high. A few safe guesses like these can fill a third of the board without losing a single life.
Next, read the shapes. A double letter or an S at the start narrows the options quickly. Look across all five rows and ask what theme could link them, then pick the consonants that fit.
Hold the vowels back. If you can finish every consonant first, all the vowels become free and you can fill the last gaps without any risk. Only buy a vowel when you are truly stuck, and pick the one that will tell you the most. E and A are the most common, while U is often a waste.
